Palais Royal

I was in the neighborhood checking out some information and decided to walk to the Palais Royal.

On the way to Palais Royal, I saw this shining statue, later I found the statue is called Joan of Arc on Horseback. St Joan was wounded here in 1426 trying to take Paris from the English during the Hundred Years War. I didn’t get too close to the status because the rain was pouring down.

Palais Royal was built and lived in by members of the royal family; Louis XIV spent his childhood here. It now houses the Ministry of Culture. This is under renovation during my visit and I didn’t get to look at inside of the Palais. The main garden is a delightful place in the center of the city, and I am sure it gets even more beautiful during the summer time when all the trees come to life. There are seating, kids’ play area, a fountain, statues and flowerbeds. People were walking their dogs in the garden, and I could see Zai Zai running around in this Garden. ☺ On either side under the arcades are specialist shops. And the arcades are simply fascinating!
