Opera Palais Garnier (Opera House)

I was going to show Spencer the famous Galeries LaFayette; however, it is not open on Sundays. I am quite surprised to learn that most stores are not open for business on Sundays. Aren’t Sat and Sunday the busiest days at the malls in the US?

Being disappointed, we looked for the Opera Palais Garnier which should be nearby the Galeries. We saw the back of the Opera House, and I couldn't stop clicking my camera away. Then when we walked to the front, boy, it is simply glamorous and extravagant!

The Opera House is one of Paris’ most extravagant buildings. It was designed for the Emperor Napoleon III in the mid-19 century. The building works were hampered by the discovery of subterranean water. They pumped for 24 hours a day for a year and couldn’t get rid of it, so the Opera House stands on an artificial water tank to stop the water seeping into the foundation. This gave rise to the famous story of Phantom who haunts the Opera House.

The Opera House was closed today, and I am sure we will come back to see the grand interior design soon.
